Pantex Computer, Inc.  introduces AMERA line

(May 12, 1998) Pantex Computer Inc. has announced the creation of Amera Computers, a new line of personal computer products developed for the education and government markets. According to Pantex President Mike Yuan, the new Amera products will be offered in configurations based on feedback from technology specifiers in the target markets across America.

Amera systems feature Pentium- and Pentium Pro-class processors and are both Windows and Novell certified. All but the most basic workstation models will offer full multimedia systems, including high-speed CD-ROM. Certain models will be shipped network-ready, needing only software installation by technology personnel. Gilbert Yang, Vice President of Sales, says "The guiding principle in Amera's configuration design was providing what the market needed rather than asking the customer fit what we had to offer."

Amera Computers will extend Pantex's long-term commitment to high quality. Each system is tested for both electronic and mechanical function and must pass an extended "burn-in" test designed to weed out marginal components. Pantex said its research indicated that technology support personnel spent too much time on systems that either failed or were not ready to work in their intended function. "Our goal is 100% ready, out of the box," said Mr. Yuan in his announcement. Amera Computers will also offer toll-free technical support and extended warranties with on-site service options.

Pantex has already opened the channel to Amera's target markets with its component distribution division and Pantex-branded OEM services. Amera will build on the existing channel relationships to fuel its growth as a systems integrator.

Amera Computers are produced by Pantex Computer Inc., a privately-held corporation with headquarters in Houston, Texas. Pantex also maintains full-service facilities in Atlanta, Georgia, Los Angeles, California, and Raleigh, North Carolina. Currently, the company is growing about 20% annually in sales volume. Pantex is a privately-held corporation founded in 1984. Pantex is an exhibitor at Comdex.
